Qualifications
The Credentials, If You Want Them.
My real qualification is experience — I've been tutoring since I was 15. But people ask for the paper trail too, so here it is.
At a Glance
A decade of doing this.
I don't formally track testimonials — student privacy matters more to me than a quote wall. What I can say: scores have moved by 5–10+ points on the ACT, grades have gone from failing to A's and B's, and more than once a student has gone from dreading a test to expecting it to be easy.
Test Scores
The standardized-test résumé.
On the ACT, I wanted to retake it for a higher writing score. My parents said no.
Career So Far
From high school tutor to here.
Started tutoring
Began with fellow students in high school, mostly ACT math.
Three undergraduate degrees
B.S. Mathematics (magna cum laude, including three year-long graduate math courses), B.S. Chemistry (multiple years in a computational chemistry lab, learning Fortran and C++), and B.A. Psychology (summa cum laude, multiple years in a social psychology lab). Also TA'd precalculus, applied linear algebra, and advanced organic chemistry lab.
Ivy League Tutoring
Tutored full-time until the sole proprietor passed away from cancer and the business closed.
Master's in Mathematics
Research in algebraic geometry. Taught numerical analysis and abstract algebra sections, and was the instructor of record for calculus courses during the height of COVID.
Returned at the former boss's request
Continued until his passing closed the business for good.
Private tutoring
Independent, one-on-one, the way I think it should be done.
FAQ
What people usually want to know.
What degrees does he hold?
Four: a B.S. in Mathematics (magna cum laude), a B.S. in Chemistry, and a B.A. in Psychology (summa cum laude) from the University of Minnesota, plus a Master's in Mathematics from the University of Chicago.
How long has he been tutoring?
Over a decade, starting at age 15 — part-time and full-time at different points, including several years at a tutoring agency before moving to private practice.
Has he actually taken the tests he tutors for?
Yes — over 20 standardized tests personally, including a 36 ACT and three 800s across SAT subject tests, plus 15 or more AP exams.
Does he have a formal teaching certification?
No K-12 teaching certificate. Qualifications instead come from his degrees, personal test scores, university teaching experience as a TA and calculus instructor, and over a decade of direct tutoring.
Why aren't there testimonials on the site?
Student privacy comes first, so testimonials generally aren't tracked or published. Score and grade improvements are described in general terms instead.
Questions?
I'd rather discuss this than list it.
I don't love bragging, so if you want more detail than what's above, a quick call is the better format than a longer page.
