This page is meant to discuss my qualifications for tutoring.
I would argue my highest qualifications is simply my experience. I have been tutoring people since I was 15. I have over a decade of experience, sometimes working part-time, sometimes working full-time. I have tutored many topics, across many disciplines.
Others may argue that what I should put here is "testemonials". I usually advocate for student privacy, and hence don't really keep track of testemonials. However, maybe I should start. I have notably increased student scores in standardized tests, the equivalent of 5-10 points on the ACT (if not more, but it depends on the initial score). I have increased grades from failing to A's and B's. More importantly, I have improved student mood from being incredibly concerned to feeling like a course is easy; from dreading a test to expecting it to be simple.
Anyway, a summary of my actual qualifications.
- In high school, I took 17 AP tests, to my recollection (as in I recall that number: Looking at a list, I only count 15 I actually recall taking). I did quite well, I think I got at least a 4 on all of them (and a 5 if I actually took the course).
- I got a 36 on the ACT. I wanted to re-take the test, since my writing score was lower than I wanted; my parents didn't let me.
- I took the SAT, and got an 800 on the math part. I don't recall my other scores, since the ACT was better so I just used that.
- I got an 800 on the SAT Mathematics II Subject Test.
- I got an 800 on the SAT Physics Subject Test.
- I got a 730 (to memory) on the SAT Chemistry Subject Test. There was some weird section on what color things were, which I didn't know at all.
- I then went to the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. I got three degrees: B.S. in Mathematics, B.S. in Chemistry, and B.A. in Psychology.
- My mathematics degree was magna cum laude. I took three year-long graduate mathematics courses.
- For my chemistry degree, I worked for multiple years in a computational chemistry lab. Here I learned to program Fortran and C++. I also took two year-long graduate chemistry courses.
- My psychology degree was summa cum laude. I worked for multiple years in a Social Psychology lab.
- I additionally worked as a TA for precalculus, Applied Linear Algebra, and Advanced Organic Chemistry Lab.
- I then worked full-time as a tutor (at an institution that is now out-of-business due to the sole proprietor dying of cancer: Ivy League Tutoring).
- Then I attended the University of Chicago and got my Master's in mathematics, doing extensive research in algebraic geometry.
- I also helped with Numerical Analysis and Abstract Algebra, and was the instructor for Calculus courses (during the peak of COVID).
- I went back to tutoring at Ivy League Tutoring, at the boss's request, until he died.
- I then went on to tutor privately.
- In summary, I have four college degrees, have taken over 20 advanced standardized tests, and have tutored for over a decade.
I really don't like bragging, so hopefully the above is good enough. If you would like to know more, I would be happy to discuss. Feel free to call me.
